Extreme Ownership at Home

Leadership may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about challenges with your partner, kids, or parents. We know that in every problem you face – at work, in your community, at home, or within yourself – leadership is the solution. Join Echelon Front instructors Dave Berke and Jamie Cochran as they discuss applying the principles of Extreme Ownership in one of our toughest arenas – the home.

We’ve helped millions of people learn about the principles of Extreme Ownership, and the majority of those we’ve worked with focus on applying these concepts in their work lives. They would begin to see success in their business and believe in the effectiveness of the concepts, but then they began asking us questions about applying these principles on the home front. If we took their questions and gave them a business context, they could see the obvious answer, but they found it much more difficult to apply these concepts at home. So, we wanted to create a course that took those same foundational leadership principles that we know work in all aspects of life and provide a structured, practical explanation of how to apply Extreme Ownership at Home. In this course, Jamie and Dave break down the foundational concepts, some high-level strategies, and several useful tactics for implementing Extreme Ownership within your household.

Leadership requires specific behaviors, and these behaviors are the same whether you’re leading a team at work or leading your family at home. We call these behaviors the Laws of Combat, and they are the fundamentals of leadership.

When you look at any challenge, any problem, you can identify one, two, or sometimes all of the Laws of Combat in violation.

Jamie and Dave will explore each of these fundamentals in depth and discuss how they can be applied to solve any challenges you’re facing at home.

  • Define each Law of Combat
  • Identify which law, or laws, are being violated in any situation
  • Change your perspective with Dave and Jamie’s personal examples

These principles are simple but not easy. It’s not enough to just know and understand the Laws of Combat. We have to know how to apply them strategically for long-term success.

We should be thinking strategically at all times, and it’s essential that we don’t sacrifice our long-term strategic goals for quick tactical wins.

  • Learn the importance of family alignment
  • Recognize that relationships are paramount
  • Understand when to care and when not to care
  • Find ways to avoid catastrophic risk

Tactics are specific ways of doing things that will, over time, lead you to strategic success.

While tactical wins should never be more important than strategic wins, there are key tactics that you can use effectively in combination with the principles of extreme ownership.

Jamie and Dave will walk you through their favorite tactics and how they’ve used them successfully with their families.

  • How to get each member of your family involved to achieve full buy-in
  • Understand the importance of perspective and recognize when to maintain your perspective versus when to change it
  • Identify when and how to apply consequences

Key Course Takeaways

What people say?

During an especially difficult time in healthcare, Extreme Ownership leadership development with Echelon Front has taught my organization how to break down silos between hospitals, departments, and service lines. The culture change of starting to see ourselves as one big team versus many small teams competing with one another is helping us fulfill our mission of proving high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care.  Utilizing cover and move and building relationships across teams through listening, respect, trust, influence, and caring is creating a culture of teamwork.  You can hear the common language in the hallways of our hospitals and clinics daily.  Even participating in the training itself is bringing leaders across the organization together that would normally not get the chance to interact with one another. Departments that have been reluctant to work with each other in the past are now making it a priority to form relationships because they are starting to see how it benefits everyone. Through these trusting relationships, we are starting to see a culture of decentralized command develop. We are well on our way to working at an organization where people come to work feeling empowered to lead!”

Echelon Front’s training is like a flashlight, pointing you toward the path and giving you the tools you need for your journey. It’s changed the way I lead my people. It’s changed the way I lead at home. It’s changed the way I lead myself”

Our team has become more accountable, more efficient, and more effective in everything we do. I cannot recommend Echelon Front enough to anyone looking to take their company to the next level!
